Support the passage of LD 1928: An Act to Prohibit Lodging Establishments from Providing Single-use Plastic Containers

Our Surfrider Maine Chapter, along with coalition partners like Oceana, is supporting the passage of LD 1928: An Act to Prohibit Lodging Establishments from Providing Single-use Plastic Containers.
This bill would reduce plastic pollution by restricting single-use plastic containers in lodging establishments, a step many lodging establishments have already taken.
Our chapter policy coordinator, Mariel Gieger, testified in support of this bill at a committee hearing on May 12th, 2025.
Similar to our Ocean Friendly Hotels program, LD 1928 represents a proactive step toward reducing plastic pollution, protecting marine ecosystems, and promoting sustainable practices in Maine's lodging industry.
